Complementary solids should always be started after 6 months are fully completed (180 days), which means when the baby steps into her 7th month. Introducing solid foods during the 6th month running is too early because a baby's digestive system needs 6 full months to mature. Breastmilk or formula provides all the necessary nutrition until this milestone.
Tell your bhabhi to look for signs of readiness, such as good head control and sitting with minimal support. She can begin with simple, easy-to-digest single foods like ragi porridge, mashed banana, moong dal water, or steamed apple puree once a day, while continuing regular milk feeds. Always introduce one new food at a time and follow the 3-day wait rule to check for allergies.
