Generally, If I want to check if an app is Chinese or not I prefer to dig down to its developer and background check about them. But just remember most of the apps have some amount of direct or indirect Chinese investment(that's what I have found)
To check if an app is a fraud or unsafe, the best way is to check what its made for and what permissions it asks? If an app designed to take just photograph and it asks for Call permission, SMS permission, Location Permission, and blah blah it means there is something wrong with.
Also, check the reviews and number of users downloaded a particular app from the app store. Generally, if more than 10000 people have downloaded and given good reviews chances are app is not a fraud(but it's no Guarantee)
The last thumb of rule you should always follow is to download and install apps only and only from Google Play Store, Apple APP store, or similar white listed stores and not from the grey market or direct links and always check if the app is marked as play protect verified or not.
