Hello dear full form of SGOT is serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, SGPT is serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase. These are the liver enzymes which play an important role in metabolism. When the persons liver is damaged or ill, SGOT can leak from the liver into bloodstream. If the levels are higher than normal it indicates the person liver has a problem. Only higher levels of SGOT indicates damage of any organ in the body. Normal range is 5-40 units per litre and SGPT is about 7- 56 units per litre.

SGPT (ALT) and SGOT (AST) are important enzymes that indicate liver health. Their normal ranges can vary slightly between labs, but generally, SGPT is often below 40-50 U/L and SGOT below 35-40 U/L. Elevated levels suggest your liver might be under stress or experiencing some damage, which could be due to various reasons like fatty liver, infections, certain medications, or alcohol consumption. It's crucial not to self-diagnose but to consult a doctor for a proper evaluation if your levels are high.

To help maintain healthy liver enzymes, focus on a balanced lifestyle. This includes a wholesome diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while limiting oily, processed, and sugary foods. Staying well-hydrated, engaging in regular moderate exercise, and strictly avoiding alcohol are also vital. If you are on any medications, discuss them with your doctor, as some can impact liver function. Always follow your doctor's advice for diagnosis and management.
